  • Error Messages ---- Help

I have just bought my first CIV3 game and have never played it before. I installed it and started to play and I get these error messages.

Civilizatoin3 has caused an error in CIVILIZATION3.EXE civilization3 will now close.
If you continue to experience problems try restarting your computer.

I have done this many a time, I have been back to where I purchased it and swapped it over thinking it may have been the disk.
Is it my computer or me or what.

The other error message is when I am in the tutorial and I press to build cities I get:
Unable to allocate draw-buffer: terminating program.

Can some help me and let me know what I should do I really want to play this game.

    Thanks

    What Windows are you running?
Is it the basic game? No modification to the terrain or unit graphics, or rules?

        Draw - buffer - - usually probably means a Direct X problem.
Are your video drivers really up to date to play with Direct X 8.0a.
Did you install Direct X 8 or above to play the game + video drivers.

        Just a suggestion!

Also the graphics acceleration for the graphics must be able to use both Direct 3d and Direct Draw as tested with DXDiag program usually found in C:\Windows\System folder and installed with DX. Tests the system and sets up graphics acceleration, but really graphics acceleration is set by (with my system) right clicking on My Computer - Device Manager -- Performance tab -- Graphics -- and restarting the computer after setting graphics acceleration to middle or all way to right -- especially for any game.
May not work that high with other programs -- unless they are games.
Set back to left in that case.

Could be you didn't install the latest version of Direct X but the game is supposed to install it with the game if you don't have it allready. This makes it more likely that you have video driver problem.

You should get the latest drivers for your video card. If you have trouble doing that try asking again but tell us what you have.

You should at least tell what video card you have. You have allready told us you are using Windows ME but it would be good to mention the CPU and motherboard and the sound card. However the main thing in this case is the video card. If its an old card you are going to have problems. The video card needs enough memory for the buffer for instance.
