  • Can't build workers...

I'm playing the Aztecs on a slightly modified version of Marla Singer's world map, using Civ3 version 1.07f, and I can't build workers in any of my cities Can anyone help me with this?

Everything else works perfectly fine, and I suppose I can get along with captured and traded workers, but it's still really annoying.

how big are the cities in which you're trying to build 'em? Workers cost 1 population point in addition to shield cost, so you need to wait until they reach size 2.

Is the option to build workers greyed out in the build queue, is it gone altogether?

And why are you playing 1.07f?

Oh, my cities are plenty big, and the worker isn't greyed out or anything, it's just not there.

And I'm playing 1.07f because the other updates don't seem to work for me, they cause the game to crash and freeze and stuff... but that's another problem altogether...

Oh well, it's kind of an interesting challenge I suppose... forces me to play aggressively, raze cities and enslave their inhabitants to create my workforce... and maybe offer a few sacrifices to my bloodthirsty Aztec gods on the side...

You may have to re-install the game if you haven't done so already.

The thing is, it's only this one game that I can't build workers in, all the rest are fine... I'll try reinstalling, see if that has any effect on the savegame...

Your game could have got corrupted somehow. I had several 1.07f games screw up.

Latest patch is 1.21f. Either at Civ 3 home website or Infogames.

Infogames, right now a blank, probably in manual for the website.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just a corrupted game, everything else seems to be working fine.
Ok, thanks, I'll try the newest patch.
In the meantime, this game has actually been pretty fun, an interesting challenge... gives me a pretty big handicap and a reason to ruthlessly raze all the big cities I come across... I have about forty Indian slave workers at this point, and I'm close to subjugating their entire civilization for my infrastructural needs...

*cracks his whip* "Faster! Work faster or you're Quetzlcoatl-meat!"

Muahahaha! Let's see how many civilizations I can turn into smouldering rubble and Aztec slave races!
