  • Immortals beat Knights consistently

I have repeatedly attacked Persian Immortals (4/2) with Knights (4/3). That's basically a 4 to 2 battle as I see it - plus in some instances it was veteran knights vs regular Immortals. The knights have lost virtually every fight. Do Immortals have special abilities against mounted units (not documented anywhere I can find) or am I just running a streak of bad luck?

i often play as the persians, so use the immortals heaps
i haven't played it in the past 3-4 weeks, so i can't remember being beaten like a radish by cavalry, but in my last game, i had a recurring barbarian problem, and they had a lot of knights and warriors, and i beat them all (rem. barbarians are conscripts though, and i had a vet/elite (can't rem.)

looks like ur just having a streak of bad luck, howver, i've got the combat stats. here that measure who wins a fight.:

(attackers offensive power)/((attackers offensive power) + (defenders defensive power))= %chance ffor attacker to win

eg. swordsman (off. power of 3) VS. Warrior (def. power of 1)

swordsman has a 3/(3+1) chance of winning
    aka, 75%

u can work it out for the Immortal/knight scenario

maybe it's just really close to 50%... chances are chances

If the Immortals are in a town with walls or a city over size 7 then it gets a bonus to defense. If not, terrain can give defensive bonuses also.

The battles were on flat terrain - no terrain modifiers added in. I guess it's a 66% chance in favor of the Knights which is not overwhelming.

I was wondering if there are any units that have an increased capability against particular types of units - ie. mounted, foot, arty etc. Did Civ2 have that - I can't remember, or maybe it was another game...

There's nothing in the editor to suggest any unit has better stats vs. any particular unit (e.g. pikeman vs. knight)

that's what I thought. Civ2 had some unit specific advantages - but I can't find any shred of documentation suggesting that in Civ3...
