  • TERRAIN: Womoks' Terrain

    Hi all !

Well, at the beginning i just wanted to redraw the mountains graphics , but finally , i 've changed much more things .

All is far from perfect , all textures don't reloop smoothly and some trees group are too bigs. I will update this post with the latest modifications. But i think it's playable. I hope you like it and i'am expecting all your critics.

You can download the set here ---

and some screenshots --- ( You could also see some previews of my future units in civfanatics forum )

    WoW

I am amazed! Those are the nicest terrain graphics I have seen by far. Very well done mate! Wow. My only suggestion would be to rework the irrigation. Everything else looks good though.

Could I use them in a mod I am compiling?

Great job, but one small problem...
the railroads are being drowned by the rivers!
"Listen lad. I built this kingdom up from nothing. When I started here, all there was was swamp. All the kings said I was daft to build a castle in the swamp, buit I built it all the same just to show 'em. It sank into the swamp. So, I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third one. That burnt down, fell over and then sank into the swamp, but the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're gonna get, lad, the strongest castle in these isles."

those are great, gives a real earth feel to it

                constructive cristism:

the edges of the snow needs to be reworked
the plains are too dark and too plain, they look dead, i think they need to look more 'alive' rather than desolate.
the mountains are great, almost perfect, might be too dark? I'm not sure..
leave the ocean as it is, or maybe add some depth or reflection to it somehow. i've been trying to do this, but its quite hard and maybe some coast waves?
I find the tree's a wee bit dark or too few. I notice there are about 3 or 4 tree's per tile, i'm not sure what you could do; but then again, they are really good, just maybe there is something you could do to make it better.

love the mountains, love the desert, love the grassland and the ice floating around the snow terrain, (didn't think of that!), love the hills.

very good, very earthy, but just might be too earthy. The thing about creating terrain for Civ, is that it's easy to make a mess of it, it's not clear, neither is earth, but it can get difficult to play. Somehow you need to blend in clarity and the natural look of earth into one.

Also the palette is quite different from that of the units, cities, resources, etc. You might want to brighten up the terrain a bit (not because it looks bad per se, but because it clashes with the rest of the game).

Wow. Cool. Are some of the grfx from the Heroes of Might & Magic series? It has a real similar look and I'm a sucker for those grfx. I don't have IV yet, but III was great.

Add this to Snoopy's revamped cities, wow! I wonder how the combo will look. As soon as I get my game back, I'm going to test it out!

No slight to Snoopy, his terrain grfx are awesome too, but the things that push me more in this direction are the sparser trees, deciduous trees and the great mountains.

                    a couple of things tho:
-the plains are a bit too dark and desolate
-the water looks too "flat", could be just the darkness doing that
-generally dark, not a very cheery atmosphere
-something weird with some of the tile edges
                    -some jungle tiles "clumpy"
-i think you have some irrigition grfx that are bright neon green (near Antium), these are probably too bright, they clash with the rest of the tiles, otherwise the irrigation grfx are great!

                    great work! keep it up!

                      Great Wort, especially the Mountains!

Is it possible to combine your graphics with them of snoopy? (e.g. only take your mountains, or your grassland)

thanks very much for all your critics ! It's very interesting , apparently , the major problem is the darkness , ok i'll modify this.
And i'll make more differents types of irrigation for desert and tundra.
I'll add also some vegetations to plains.
Well , the flat water was a choice to have a " satellite view " looking for the game. But if you prefer textured water , no problem.
All the graphics in this mod are 100 % mine , ( with the Firaxis base for sure , the coast drawing is very nice , and i didn't change it , maybe later , i'll add some coastal cliffs )

                        Bye !

I think the satellite view is a really good idea, it seems to make it look right.

here's a pic of the highest resolution (clearest) photos of earth so far.
