I don't know if this post belongs here. I'm posting it in case people making mods/scenarios would like to read it. I may have made a huge oversight and missed something obvious, in which case I apologise for my stupidity. But anyways . . .
The editor doesn't allow me to make era_none techs a prerequisite for any tech in a different era. Fair enough, but I'd like to, so I can have different tech trees depending on the starting civ. With a bit of messing around I made an era_none tech a prerequisite for bronze working (changing the era of bronze working to none, adding the prerequisite, changing the era back to ancient and changing the prerequisite of iron working because that got changed).
Problem solved I thought, but no! Although it works for AI Civs (they couldn't even get bronze working by trading I think), when I clicked on bronze working on the Science Advisor Screen (the 'F6' one) I started, and subsequently completed, researching the era_none tech no problem and on to bronze working. The only way to research this tech was through the advisor screen.
Back to the editor to try and remove bronze working from the screen. I wanted to put the X,Y values to -100 so the tech would be off the screen, but the editor doens't let me put '-' in the text field for X and Y. So I typed -100 somewhere else, a quick cut and paste and save, and it works. I can't get Bronze working or the era_none tech as intended.
I would hope that, given a bit more time and money, the clever programming people might change something somewhere to make it a lot simpler, but there you go.
