You probably have already figured this out, when you pick what civ you want to be you can pick what the other civs will be, and how many of them there will be.

I know the screen you mean. It has the slots for the enemy and it says random, but you can select which Civ.

Where is the button for the # of civs?

      i guess i can't see it.

Set the civs to NONE if you don't want them in the game.

You could also create a scenario and set the number of civs under scenario properties.

Does someone know if 'NONE' can be selected when I choose 'Random'? I mean that I not only do not want to know which civs I will meet, but also the number of civs there will be in my game.

Nah - I think that "Random" will actually select a computer AI to play against - you just won't know what civ. But that's a good point, and it's something that should be in the game.

Just select "Random" first and then set the dropdowns to "NONE". That will leave the remaining civs on random, but decrease the number of civs to play against.
