Customizing Civ 3 -
Apolyton Civilization Site
The Altera Centauri collection has been brought up to date by Darsnan. It comprises every decent scenario he's been able to find anywhere on the web, going back over 20 years.
25 themes/skins/styles are now available to members. Check the select drop-down at the bottom-left of each page.

Back in Civ II, I could, and did, customize the names of rulers, cities, and civilizations by changing a bunch of .txt files. I could also dispense with the faces on the screen whenever something was happening.
You can change the names of rulers, cities and leaders just using the editor. Renaming civilizations - I'm not sure about that one. CivEdit does have a text box for that but you might have to change something else outwith the editor.
I would like to know how to create a file with a list of city names that I choose so that they can be used as the default cities name for such and such a civ.
Is this possible in Civ 3? If so how?
Well, you just replace the names of the cities in the editor. That way, when you're Egypt and you build the first city it could be called by default "Cairo" rather than "Thebes".
Yes, save the old Civ3mod.bic file also.
Menu item Tools, I think, Edit Rules, alll or some, menu item.
Don't worry about the map, its just a dummy starting all ocean looking background.
