  • Worker graphics not updated in Industrial age

    Hi all,

The last two games I´ve played, the graphics for the workers has not been updated when I enter the Industrial age. Both these games I´ve gotten the last requisite tech needed to enter the Industrial age from the AI.

The town graphics update accordingly and the build list uses the updated workers graphics, just that if I build them, they look like they do from the start of the game.

Has anyone else noticed this? I usually get to the Industrial age before the AI and I *think* that the game updates the worker graphics then, but it doesn´t if I buy/trade for the needed techs.

It´s a cosmetic flaw I know, but it´s rather annoying since it´s nice to see the game progress and show some fresh units, rather than the sameold-sameold.

Me too. But was it really linked to industrial age and not to the 'double work rate of workers' tech?

        Don´t think so...

I believe so, since I haven´t discovered the 'double work rate of workers' tech yet (I can´t remember what it´s called either ). And the new graphics show up in the build list, but the units themselves stay the same.

On a totally different note, I love that tech . Apart from workers doing double duty, you also get Infantry. And it´s only three techs into the Industrial Age (Steam Power -> Electricity -> Whatsitsface) with no branching requisites.

Funny. That happened to me, too.

I had updated Civ3 to the 1.16f patch. Then I updated it to the 1.17f patch. I noticed that my riflemen started to make shooting noises when they were moving. Very annoying.

Then I changed my motherboard (I needed to update my machine). Civ3 would not start at all. No problem, I thought. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, applying the newest patch to it (1.17f). Guess what? My riflemen now have normal walking sounds AND my workers' outfits now do not update anymore when I get to the Industrial Age!

What will the next patch change? Will Joan of Arc be nude during diplomatic negotiations?

I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

I have trouble that some units, when they engage combat, they don't make the attack sound. You see them winning a combat, while the other one shoots.

Yes, I have that problem too. Most notably, it´s the Cavalry unit only shooting once while attacking, then it remains quiet for the rest of the fight.

I´ve heard a lot of people have this problem. I don´t have it and I´m glad, since it seems really irritating.

Maybe you only get it if you reinstall the game and then apply the 1.17f-pacth directly, without the 1.16f in-between?

Cedronian: no, after I reinstalled the game and applied the 1.17f patch my rifleman sound got back to normal. Now my problem is with the worker graphics...

What if I uninstall the newest patch and then apply the first one and then... Hmmm... I think I can get used to this worker thing, anyway.

                  That would be Replaceable Parts.

                    Yeah, that´s the one

I think I´ve come to the conclusion that the reason that the worker graphics does not update is because you as a player don´t initiate the era transistion. E.g you buy or trade for the required tech instead of researching it yourself.

I base this on the fact that in one of the games mentioned above, I became the first civ to reach the modern age. I got the splash screen stating the "our civilization has entered a new age" (another thing missing if you buy/trade for the requisite techs) and then all the graphics got updated, including workers.

Maybe someone else sees the same results?

Ah-ha! That's it! I did not research the required tech, I acquired it from another civ. The splash screen stating the change to Industrial age did not show up. Interesting...

Now my question is: if I'm the first to reach the modern age, will the worker graphics be updated?

Yes, it will. As I said in the post above: I played a game were I was NOT the first to reach the Industrial Age, so the worker graphics did not update. Later, in the same game, I WAS the first to enter the Modern Age so the worker graphics got updated correctly (after the splash screen).

Hopefully, Firaxis will fix this in the next patch.

i can't swear to this, but i have never seen the worker graphics update, even though my BF and i have both been the first to initiate the ages in most of our games. we thought they stayed the same through the whole game, which sucks because they're still wearing those stupid dresses even though they're HOPELESSLY outdated. i mean, get with the times, people!! anyway, i haven't noticed/been bothered by the noises/lack of noises that the units make, but having workers with no fashion sense is very disturbing to me.

                            Yeah, it's understandable...

I read somewhere that the worker graphics not updating is a result of patching to 1.21f staight away (which you can do) without using the other two patches first.
