  • Your thoughts on a non-animated mod?

Would you play a civ3 scenario that did not feature animated units? I have an idea for converting my civ2 alternate world to civ3 and make use of civ3's apparently infinate unit capacity to add tons more units. However, there is no way that i could mass-produce quality animated units to fit in with the original graphics.

I would like to know if you would consider playing a civ3 mod that features no animations on the units. Using FLICster i can import my excisting civ2 graphics to creat a basic unanimated graphic file. The units would be able to flip left/right and maybe look a bit different when attacking but that would be it. I dont know if anyone has done a mod like this so far, i am quite new to civ3. I have seen a lot of custom animated units which people seem to be concentrating on, rather than creating a whole new civ3 world.

Im not sure if recreating much of the tech tree, or adding the many new tech slots that would be needed, is possible yet.. I am Just wondering what you would think of such an idea.... thanks for reading this, please let me know what you think.

BTW the game goes far into the future too, with advanced robots and anti-grav tanks and power armour etc.

I might play one if the mod looked interesting enough.

I've actualy been meaning to ask how to edit the ini file of the workers to turn off their animations... under the theory that this might make turn lengths tolerable late in the game :P

Is'nt that an option in the Preferences game menu?

If not, to turn off the animations I'd go to the file and replace all the .FLC files to the *******Default.flc (******* being the unit name).

Or use FLICSTER to export and re-import all the FLC files as single frames.

I was also thinking of creating a non animated mod. I think that the sort of people who play Civ are more concerned with the gameplay than the graphics.
