  • small question (catapult unit)

    Hi guys!!!
What happened with the old catapult that was firing always and destroyed a unit directly (from Civ2)??? Now it seems that when I construct one unit the firepower is 0 and a (4) beside!!! Not even that but from 10 attacks 7 failed (missed). Do anybody care to enlighten me what is going on????

PS I was asking you guy if you have any ideas how can I change the language but no one answered

Catapults don't act like "normal" units, they are bombard units.
The 0 is the attack value and the (4) is the bombard value.
And it is normal that they miss a lot of the time.

About that language thing: You can't change the language of the game. Maybe you could edit some files manually. If you live in Germany why haven't you gotten the US version that has been sold there last year?

      Reply!!!

What is the difference between attack power and bombard power? I don't seem to get much use of the bombard (attacking a unit with 2 or 3 as defense points).
Do I have to attack specific units to be able to make use of the bombard fire points or works on all units (inclusive those fortified in the city)?
The game was a gift so I didn't have much choice...and in the beginning I thought I could get around with my german knowledge combined with the one from CivII and as it wasn't the case I went to the store but they refused me to change the game. (just to make a long story short).
Editing the files manually would not be a good choice.

I am aware that editing the files isn't a good idea but unfortunately I can't offer any other solution.
See it as a chance to improve your German.

You also could send Firaxis or Infogrames a mail and ask them if they can help you on this problem

The bombard thingy works the same as with the airplane bombers in Civ III. You can attack any unit but you cannot destroy it completely. You can attack a city and -if you are lucky- destroy city improvements or population or damage the defending units. You also can attack improvements (irrigation, mines, roads,...).
You should use several catapults to have an impact.

Attack is basically what it was in Civ II.

Usage: You have to "B"ombard to use the bombard values, i.e. press the key or the button at the bottom of the screen.

For further reference I suggest looking in the civilopedia and the manual as it does a better job explaining this stuff than I do.

          Thanks Todd

I thank you!!! The information was a useful even if I managed to bombard with a "B" key and then select the field. The thing that surprised me was that the power of a catapult was somehow less in Civ3 than Civ2. You probably mean fighters not bombers (because they were weak...and I never used them too much, as I went for Advanced flight and got bombers to start attacking cities)
I agree about sending a request to the producers, as maybe they will help me! The german is not the big problem as it is the special terms that are used in the game (manual and civilopedia) that makes me uncomfortable to use the help.
          We'll see later!
