  • nEED HELP adding Resources during game

    Hi,

I was hoping somone here could help me. I am playing using the scenario (Huge Earth) and the year is now 1665 and I realized that the reason I cant seem to make battleships and attack helicopers is because I do not have the resource copper.

I checked the whole map and cant seem to find any copper anywhere. I know that copper is suppose to show up as soon as you have discovered bronze working.

Is there anyway to add the resource copper to the game? can I edit the sav file or something?

    Please help. Thanks.

Copper? Do you play with any kind of mod? ´Cause copper is definitly not one of the natural resources, you don´t get it from bronze working nor don´t you need it to build battleships or attack helos (have you ever seen a ship built of copper? )
The resources you need for battleships are oil and maybe coal or rubber (can´t remember that right now) and in the original game, attack helos aren´t a unit you could build (although there is a mod where it is added).

Thats exactly right flanker, I have the 34 unit mod...by kestrel.

I was trying to build Attack choppers and found that one of the prerequisites is Copper.

I checked the Map (huge Earth) and there is no source of copper anywhere on the map.

I tried adding copper to the map and was hoping that when I loaded the game it would show up but I guess not. It did not show up.

There has to be a way to manually edit or add copper to the current game without having to start a new game.

The reasoning for copper is that its required for all the electronics in the vehicle not that the vehicles are made of it. Was copper required earlier in the game to make, for example, spearmen. If so could you make them? I'm not familiar with the mod but it could be that the resource appearance/disapearance ratio is skewed which might cause your problem. You could use the editor to increase appearance and copper should appear (and you could continue with your game). I'm not sure that you can add resources yet with the map editor though.

I´ve been playing a bit with kestrels unitmod. In my downloaded version there was two extra resources copper and hemp, and a new resource iconsheet with these included, and they most certainly appear in my games. Have you installed these files?

That may explain why you didn't see any copper resources. Kestrel may have used the same icon for copper and something else (iron for example). We are limited to adding only two more resources with their own new icons (thanks a lot firaxis).

I´ve checked kestrels mod. There are references to Copper and/or Hemp in the Civilopedia- and PediaIcons.txt-files. There are new resources.pcx-files in the \art directory, and two pcx-files for hemp in \art\civilopedia\icons\resources. I guess these files must be in their correct places if things are supposed to work.

I'd guess that the mod doesnt double-use an icon on the map, but you can check. Open the bic file you're using with the editor and look at the icons on the resource tab. You should find the copper and hemp resources and what icons are used for it. If new icons (ie different from iron) are associated with the new resources then the lack of copper in your game is not because of double icon use.
