  • What is the unit limit in civ3?

I just started thinking about editing civ3 and im confused

I noticed that the unit icon graphic file in the LWA changes mod is bigger than the normal civ3 file, it has more rows.. does this mean that the game will recognise as many rows as you want to put into the file? are there other parts fo the program like the civlopedia entries that limit the number of units you can have?

Also i wondered about adding an extra civilisation to the original 16, without replacing any, is this possible? I remember fiddling with something in the civ3 editor (i think) and it seemed that the max number of civ's in the game could potentially go as high as 30+

Another thing im wondering about is wether or not it is possible to have units which depend on a wonder being built before you can build them, apart from just nuclear weapons? something like SkyNet AI or something, then you can build cyborg troopers! Or having the conditions for a small wonder depend on the number of a certain individual unit, not an army. Like if you build 10 galleons you get 'naval academy' or something...

Another thing i just thought of.. is it possible for ground units to do precision strike missions, like a navy seals raid or something? could this be done in a way that the AI would use the ability too?

Can you have a specialist that increases shield production of a city, like a factory worker or something? or even a specialist that enhances culture? would the AI use these specialists? as far as i can see in the editor, theres only a choice of money, sci or happiness.

Just wondering about these things, thanks for any help

I haven't heard yet of anyone running into a limit on adding units, so it's quite possible there is none.

Apparently there's a problem with adding more civs when you get into the Foreign Advisors screen. I haven't tried it mysef, but I've read that having more will crash the game when you get in there. A good person to ask about that is Gramphos, the guy who came up with the Civ3MultiTool. I recall a post where he was mentioning something about it.

No, there's no such thing as a building specific unit, other than Nuclear weapons. And only the number of Armies can be used as a requirement at this point.

I doubt it, though I don't know for sure.

No unfortunatley, I wish it were possible myself. As for the AI using them, it doesn't even use the ones available now, aside from the Entertainer. I had a look around a couple of times using the cheat that's out, and I didn't see a single Taxman/Scientist in any of the AI cities. Maybe later on, when all it's land space is being used, but certainly not in the rest of the game.
