  • MOD: Middle East

My new version is out. This version fixes a couple of bugs from the previous version (+ a couple of balancing adjustments):

    Frescoe Palace now buildable.
Frescoe Palace became a bit cheaper.
Iron Swordsman, Hoplite, Cataphract, Camel Rider now cost 30 shields.
Compound Bowman now costs 20 shields.
Arab favorite government: Democracy, shunned: Monarchy.
Medians can't build scouts (since they are not expansionists).
Panzer now has the appropriate movement.
    Recurved Bowman bonus decreased.
    Lydian agression level minimized.
    Sumerian agression lowered.
    Phoenician agression minimized.
Seperatists now have a defence bonus.
Better Mech. Inf., Rifleman, Tank, Mod. Armor cost rate.
    Horoscope is now buildable.
    Floodplains not minable anymore.

To rename the units for a MOD you need to create a directory in Art\Units with the new unitname. From the old directory copy the ini-file. Rename it to the new name and edit app paths in it to be ..\OldUnitName\Pathinfile.

The atached zip gives an example of the files needed to play with Samurai renamed to Crusader

I am currently working on an attempt to better my previous version. All will have an UU that makes sence.
I am also thinking about remodelling the eras, but I'm not sure how to call them. I think something like this (years are ones in real history):
4000 BC - 1000 BC: Bronze ages, Agricultural ages, Precatastrophe ages, Dark ages.
1000 BC - 800 AD: Iron Ages, Commercial ages, Postcatastrophe ages, Roman ages.
800 AD - 1850 AD: Middle Ages, Enlighted Ages, Muslim ages, Theological Ages.
1850 AD- 2000 AD: Industrial Ages, Modern Times.

      Suggestions are welcome.

This is a picture of the first age in my yet to appear next version.

The heli you see is actually a compound bowman, I already fixed that.

Here is the Iron Age for my next version.
The Construction tech will not lead to Great Wall. That will mean that it doesn't have the same spot partially in the tech tree as Currency.
Could someone tell me the Latin word for turtle. I know the Romans used that for the Legions. For now I have just called the tech Turtle Tactics.

              Latina.

Latin for “turtle” is testudo (plural testudines).

                Thanks for the testudo.
Here are the Enlighted Ages. I didn't think it should be called Middle Ages, because there are only two techs that are medieval.

I'm balancing right now and testing. Iraq, Russia and Ethiopia are out. Mittani (ancient Syria), Median Empire (ancient Kurdistan) and Lydia (West-Anatolia) are new... Could somebody give me ideas for the Lydian UU.

This is what the map will look like. It's 140 x 210

Extract them in the Civ3 directory.

                            Types of files:
                            \art\units\Recurved Bowman\Recurved Bowman.ini
                            becomes
                            C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization 3\art\units\Recurved Bowman\Recurved Bowman.ini
                            etcetc
                            \scenarios\middle east 2.0a.bic
                            becomes
                            C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\Civilization 3\scenarios\middle east 2.0a.bic

                            Speaks for itself basically...

There is a glitch with the wonders. when I finish building the fresco palace, the games causes an error in the civ3.exe and the gasme shuts off.
