  • new to mods for Civ3, quick questions

I've been using the editor that came with Civ3 (patched and repatched) to made some slight changes, not a complete rework as some people have.

    1) If I use the editor to change the name of a unit, from "warrior " to "bannana", does that crash the game? It sure seems to.

    2) Is there any way to help the AI not get confused? I revamped one unit and the AI turns got longer and longer until the point where most of the 8 nations had 6-8 cities. Then the AI's turn never ended.

The editor is kind of ridiculous, I think Firaxis is planning on a better editor in the future.

But in the mean time what you should do is look in the how to threads right on this creation forum. - I'm sorry I can't tell you straight away, I don't actually know myself and I am not really interested until something better comes by, because the editor is just pathetic at the moment, its hardly an editor at all. Instead of all the rename crap, there should be an ADD button, I just hope Firaxis are working on something.

If you change the name of a unit, you have to make sure to change the name of it's folder in the Art/Units directory as well, including the .ini file in that folder. Otherwise the game will crash.
