I figured out how to make units obsolete without making them upgradable. I found this out a long time ago, and I thought that everyone knew it, until I noticed several threads complaining about swordsmen not disappearing from the build list. This is really easy to do. Just make the unit that you want to disappear upgrade to another unit, but don't give the unit the upgrade ability. For example, say you want Cavalry to become obsolete when you get Tanks, but you don't want Cavalry to upgrade into Tanks. In the editor, got to Cavalry in the Units tab, select Tanks in the upgrade box, but leave Upgrade in the abilities box unchecked. Now Cavalry will disappear from the build list when you get Tanks, but you can't upgrade them to Tanks.
