can anybody tell me how to initiate diplomatic contacts ??
i have embassies but can only talk to other leaders when the AI wants to talk ... i'm sure i'm missing something ... any ideas will be appreciated.

There are several ways to initiate contact (only if you have met the other civ , of course):

1) Press the little "D" Button at the lower right of your map screen.

2) Click (or double click, I forgot) the heads in the diplomatic advisor menu.

3) Right click on a unit of the civ you want to contact and chose the corresponding option.

4) Press Shift-D

rigth click in a enemy unit and choose contact...

Or press the F4 key to bring up your diplomacy screen.
