  • Bug with new patch or...?

Well, I don't know if this is the new patch or just my system screwing things up, but here's the problem...

Upon a certain turn, my game locked up and crashed. At first I dismissed it as one of those normal crashes, but when I tried to make it go again, it locked up and crashed at the exact same point. I suspected it might be something I did in the editor, but as I was meddling around in the editor (having found nothing that may have caused a crash) I seemed to remember that a civilization had started building a wonder that had already been completed, and the crash was identical to the one which occured when I tried to make palaces into wonders.

So, in summation, it seems that some error has occured that allows a civ to attempt to build a wonder that has already been completed, and when they complete it it causes the game to crash (since the same wonder can't exist more than once without the game crashing). I'm not sure if this is my problem or a patch problem. Has anyone else run into this?

The reason why you cant make the palace to a wonder is that it has no wonder splash.

    Yuo need to add a
    #WON_SPLASH_0
    image path
into the pediaicons.txt, but that is most ikely not the problem you have.

You do either have an invalid page fault, which can be anything from that you are out of memory to that sometihng is missing in the rules, or a divide error (division with 0, which has something to do with the game's calculations.) If you post the save I'll might be able to get past it (if it is the divide error that is).

This is strange, it didn't crash for me. Try downloading the corrected bic (it is in a thread about armies from huts in the general forum)

OK, I downloaded the save file you attatched and attempted to load it, and the following errors occured repeatedly before Civ3 crashed:

          DatalO operation System Error: CULT
          DatalO operation System Error: ESPN
          DatalO operation System Error: LEAD

Now, I don't know what this means (unless the famous sports network is leading a cult in an attempt to take over the world) but I do wish it would stop. =P Any ideas, folks?

Are you sure you installed 1.17f correctly?

Nope. For some reason it went to uninstall before it installed the patch, but it didn't actually uninstall and then went to the patch. I'm very confused now. I'll try to run the patch again.

OK I fought the cyclops and won. Everything seems to work again.

                  RETURN OF THE CYCLOPS!

Uhhh, it's crashing again. =P I made the following changes in the editor between the time that it worked and the time that it didn't work:

                  1. Unflagged all units as being available to "A Barbarian Chiefdom" except for Warrior, Horseman, Settler, and Army.
                  2. Increased the Marine unit's attack value to 10.
                  3. Gave every unit which moved more than 1 square in a turn as well as any unit with a firearm or cannon (and the catapult) a zone of control.

That's all...how could that cause an error?

                    , so it was a pre-patch bug.

                      Cyclops down and out?

Okay, I think I figured it out. Somehow my civ3mod.bic became corrupted, and that was causing the errors. I believe that it is fixed now (yay!) and shouldn't be a problem anymore. Thanks for your assistance!

They should REALLY make a :victory: smile! But for now I'll have to settle for this:

Did you have the correct editor?

Yes, if you make changes to the bic file, there's a chance it can get corrupted. I had to reinstall my game 3 times before I was smart enough to back up the original file. So that also means it's a good idea to back up your modified file from time to time as well, so you don't end having to start from scratch everytime it screws up.
