  • How do I put a unit to Sleep / Sentry ?

In Civ2 I could put a unit to "Sleep/Sentry" (via the 'S' key) rather than fortifying it and it would then "wake up" if an enemy unit came near.

This meant that I could deal with the enemy unit woithout having to unfortify one of the units nearby.

Is there an equivalent function in Civ3 ? (If so, I haven't found it yet.)

Does anyone know of a workaround ?

No, there's no Sentry mode in Civ III, just the Fortify. Frankly I wish they'd bring it back, I can't really understand why they removed it.

Has anyone requested such a thing for the next Patch / Version of Civ3 ?

I find it very annoying to have to remember to unfortify the right troops if I catch enemy movements out of the corner of my eye.

Often I miss it and the enemy penetrate deep into my territory before I have a chance to deal with them.

Is this a common enough problem for others to raise their voices to Firaxis ?

Yes it has been mentioned by a few people now, so they're aware that some of us would like that feature back. Whether they do or not is another story. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
