I just did a test on trying to get something out of the Explorer, and the results were very interesting to say the least. If it has it's nationality hidden, the AI won't attack it, even if you are at war. It completely ignores it so you can send it off to pillage all you want to. You could strip a civ's empire clean of ALL improvements, and it won't lift a finger to stop you. I'm not really sure I really want to use it frankly, that would be a bit to much power I think. But I thought it was interesting enough to pass along. Maybe I could just get rid of it's ability to pillage, and use it as strictly a recon unit.
And who says Explorers are useless?
