  • CivIII Edit - can't use it

    Hi.
    New user, maybe new problem?

First of all, when I launch the editor, an annoying "can't read file" popup pops up.

But the main problem is that I can't modify all the rules I want. The following tabs are not editable and are grayed:

    - Citizens
    - Civilizations
    - Civilization Advances
    - Culture
    - Eras
    - Governments
    - Improvements and Wonders
    - Natural Resources
    - Units

Did I miss something? The "Use default rules" option is unchecked...

What Can I do? I want to tweak my civs!

    Many thanks in advance...

Probably a stipid question, but did you open a *.bic from File/Open... ?

Try to turn off all other programs and try again (the editor uses loads of memory.)

        Nope!

        then hetairoi22 asks
... but did you open a *.bic from File/Open... ?
No sir. My goal is to start something from scratch... and to tweak the rules to MY advantage!

VCO, I think you misunderstood what hetairoi22 said... In order to edit the rules in Civ3, you have to open the file "civ3mod.bic" using the "File/Open" command... Unless I'm wrong, what is not so unusual...
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

Or you can just click on the civ3mod.bic icon. It will automatically open up the editor.

Be sure to copy the original and save it as a backup!

I just started CivEdit by its self. First I generated a map, then it asked some questions before making a map.
Then under Tools menu item, I clicked off 'Use Default Rules", then it gave me a message about changing things and how it may interfere with something or other, but then I could bring up all the Edit menu items and change the rules for the map.

                It works for me!

Just by Clicking off the check mark on the Tools menu, and Using Default Rules item.

                works fine!
