  • Tutorial: How to create a convincing new unit animation (By Dark Sheer)

Dark Sheer has written this tutorial on how to create a unit animation. And I think it could be useful around here as well.

    It is in PDF format.

Thanks again for posting it on Apolyton

I does hope it provides some help to those who wish to create their own units but do not plan to use any 3d programs.
If the animation is not there, lets create it!! :D

An example using the method in the tutorial

I am attaching a gif file showing as an example of what is said in the tutorial. The flc file from which the gif came from is effectively a combination of 3 flc, a swinging sword, a man on horseback in fighting position (with no weapon in hand of course) and a bucking horse. By using the method I mention in the tutorial I can switch the rider, switch the horse or switch the weapon and combine them as I like.

The file is not corrupted. When you save the file, don't save it as attachment. Rather, save it as tutorial.zip.

Unfortunately, that did not work for me either.

Are you sure it is not corrupted?
tis better to be thought stupid, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I am sure it is not corrupted as I just downloaded a copy to test and it works!

Anyway, if you guys are having trouble, you can also download it here at Civfanatics

Phew! Writing this tutorial is harder than making unit animation!! I will try to explain everything on how to make a reasonable animation without using 3d modeling. The tutorial will come in serveral parts and I will post each part as I finished. For the more complicated part I will try to...

Ummm...can I have some feedback on whether the tutorial is useful or not?

Even a feedback such as "Its total junk!" is appreciated.

What in the name of Sid Meier is a "totorial" ?
In how many threads and how many times has Gramphos butchered how many languages? Only Gramphos, MarkG, and good ol Ming will EVER truly know.
