  • Culture-specific starting locations??

With this grand new game (I only got it a week ago, so I'm in the first bleary-eyed stage of enjoying it) I wanted to go back and do a big version of the game with its original point - to rewrite history. So I gave it the preference "Culture-specific starting locations" and loaded the Huge map of Earth.

It puts me on Earth, but it ignores the location preference, and put the poor Babylonian settlers in Nevada and then (when I tried again) in France. Now, isn't it specifically when you are NOT randomizing the map that you want to be able to start in a predetermined location?

The map selection ought to be separate from the scenario selection - that is, an option on the map randomization page ought to be to load a map. Not that this would necessarily solve the problem. Something else seems to have been left out in the code.

    RCB

(p.s. Nor is that nearly the only problem I have with CivIII so far, but I'll ask about other things later).

The "Culture-specific starting locations" only mean that you will start near your cultural neighbors, e.g as Egypt you will probably start near the Romans and the Greeks, as Persia near Babylon etc.

If you want to start in the (geographiocally) correct location check the Files - forum, there are some programs and mods that will work for this.
