  • Infogrames and Microsoft - a nightmare coalition. I need help

My problem: After having installed CIV III weeks ago in my Win ME System, I uninstalled it a few days ago, but in 'software' a note for CIV III could not be erased.
When I tried to install CIV III today again, the CD always tried to UNinstall CIV III. I click on 'install', but the message comes: do you want to uninstall CIV
does anyone no what to do?

At this point, I suppose you might as well take desperate measures. Try deleting the folder.

        1) Stop using WinME and use a real OS.

        2) You need to use Regedit (in the windows folder) to track down and erase all entries of Civ3 in the register database. Only then the OS will think that the game was uninstalled. Beware, though, messing with the register database can cause critical breaks on the computer OS.

        3) Erase WinME and use something else.

I think they did that on purpose, to ensure you will keep playing Civ3, anyway, a GOOD game doesn't need an uninstaller.

Get rid of WinME, and install WinXP but not macos (MacOS)!

I had the same problem, here is how to solve it.

Before you touch the registry you have to delete a hidden install folder.
            1) make hidden files visible, it should be under tools>folders>options, use help file if you need to find how to do it
2)do a search for all folders containing words Civ3 OR Inf
3)find the hidden folder, inside should be hidden files
            4)delete

I am sorry that I can't give you more detailed instructions but I never used ME, I use win2k.
