  • The patch, damned patch! Help!

    Dear friends!

May I become crazy but my patch
    Civ3v116f which I took from Civ-III
official cite is not work. Fighters
    intercept nothing, helicopters still
can carry only one unit etc.
I read on the Civ-III home site
that the first Civ3v116f was incorrect
and we must to take the new «improved»
virsion. I downloaded it ! The same result !!!
    Fighters
    intercept nothing, helicopters still
can carry only one unit etc.
What is it mind? Or I am crazy or Civ-III team
play tricks with us or I missing something.
    Please help somebody.

    PS

In my opinion Civ-III is a fine game but worst completed.
The must to bail out some of their criminal programmers and
to reward designers and units creator for their perfect work.
    Is n’t I am right?

When you "install" the improved patch 1.16f the first time, it only de-installs the previous (incorrect) version of the patch. You have to run the installation procedure a second time with the improved patch, then it will be installed correctly - have you done that?

      NO LESULTS - DAMNATION

      Thank You for the advice.

      I did next steps.

      First - I downloaded the N1 version
of Civ3v116f and installed it. As I said
      it did not work.

After a couple of weeks I found on the
official Civ-III site that they have done a «wrong»
patch and now thay have a new, "normal"
version. I downloaded this one with a great cheer but
with some doubts - I already have got a lesson about
Civ-III troublesome. I suspected that something wrong
with this «improved» patch. It has the same size as the N1
and the same name - Civ3v116f.

First I cleaned already installed N1 using the N1 patch
Then I installed N2 - no effects. Then I have come to this
noble forum for help. Hm. I tried to install N2 patch twice,
triple time - no effect. I returned N1 then cleaned it with N 2
and install N2 after that. NO EFFECTS! Fighter intercept
nothing, helicopters can carry only one unit etc.

What can I do now? May be I downloaded again N1 instead of
N2 ? But how is this possible - can they be so stupid in order to contain a
wrong version on their site. I am in despair.

Unfortunately, I have not much advice for you, only this:

I noticed that after I installed the (improved) patch, my older fighters (the WW II Spitfire style thing) never intercepted a bomber - I also worried a lot about it. But then, when I built my first modern jetfighter, this ace pilot shoot down a bomber on its first mission!

Never tried helis until now, so I can´t say much about them...

Edit: Oh, and I´m not sure if this is important, but did you start a new game after you installed the improved patch? I know Firaxis said old savegames work with the new patch, but I heared from other civers who said it is better to restart.

          I think may be...

Hello, friend, I do not know who are You but in
any case thank You for this assistance.

May be You are right - I play SAVED game now and do not see
results. I had f-15 fighter, playing as American, but it "slept"
when old designed enemy bombers skimmed nearby.

Hm..... May be I need to start a new game? It is too pity, this
          one was good for me.

Do You know how I can recognize in the early period that the
          patch is work?

Well. Thank You again , dear friend.

          Sincerely Your

          Alex

the version number is printed in small letters at the bottom left of the opening options screen, or left click the civ3 icon and look for version number under 'properties'
