Yeah I think something should happen the first time a civ goes around the world. Maybe is could trigger a small wonder? Maybe a golden age for expantionist civs? Maybe a lump gold payment?
Of course, this is just wishful thinking... I'd imagine that if anything, it could only be triggered by a certain number of squares explored (since that seems to be a concrete value), and the modder would have a really, really tough time...
