I'm trying to load Civ III onto a machine with Windows NT 4.0 and I'm getting an incompatibility error with DirectX 8.0. Anybody able to offer help along these lines. I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm afraid you're out of luck - WinNT 4.0 SP6a offers DirectX 6.0, which is "the highest release supported on this platform." (source:MS)
Since CivIII requires at least DirectX 8.0 you only option is to upgrade to Windows 2000 or XP...
