  • How do you know if you get a tech from the great library?

I have built it but have not got any tech from it yet. I am playing the third easiest level. REgent? i forget.

Does it tell me when I get a tech? I have had it for about 100 turns and nothing. not one tech yet. I cant tell if its working.

yes, it tells you. but i don't think the message says explicitly that you got it from the great library, it just says you got it. you have to notice that you weren't researching that tech, or that you were not about to finish researching it on that turn.

if you are actually not getting any techs at all, maybe the wonder is obsolete (once education is discovered?). or maybe your opponents are just very slow at researching...

Thanks for the reply. I just think the other civs are just slow right now. I am the only one out of ancient times right now. it think. i just got into middle ages just a few turns ago. but then again i only have met one civ. I cant see the ai going that fast with tech so fast at regent level.

yolky, you will only get free techs from civs you have contact with.

Best thing to do once you build the great library is to make contact with as many other civs as possible. You'll be pleasantly surprised at all the free techs you can get once you've made contacts.

I don't remember exactly, but I think the use other words in the popup for a GL-tech then a discovered tech.

yolky, yes really. Its not in the civilopedia, and yeah its not like in civ2 - note that the expiration of the great library isnt electricity like in civ2.

I learnt about this in the forums here. Up until now, and i have played alot, it has proven to be true.

                Civilopedia says:
"The civilization that builds the Great Library gets any Civilization Advance already discovered by two other known civilizations for free."

Note that is says "known civilizations".
