Hi. Im a semi-newbie to civIII and loving it. Playing 3 weeks straight now. I'm starting a new game and trying to get my cities flying but I'm wondering why when I irrigate a tile(grassland) I don't see the numbers of foods increase from 2 to 3 using the cityview. Any help will be appreciated.

Maybe you are under despotism givernment, where tiles with base food 2 or greater cannot increase food production by irrigation? -

What happens under Despotism (and Anarchy) is that the 3rd food, shield or gold from each tile is lost. If the tile has exactly 2 food (like grassland), irrigating will do no good. If it has 3 or more food, irrigating will help. E.g. floodplain has 3 food (you only get 2 under despotism as the 3rd one is lost), irrigating will give you 3 food now and 4 once you change governments.Originally posted by vincepai
