Shipping armies

I want to start kicking Red native American butt, but I can't get my armies to climb into galley's/caravels. Can armies be shipped? Are my ships not big enough?

I guess that's the problem! I once shipped an army, but it took a whole galleon.

Perhaps your ship is not big enough. note that the army leader take up one space in the ship. So if you got an army with 3 guys, the army will occupy 4 space in the ship.
