  • XP & GeForce Issue... different!

I'm running WinXP with a GeForce 2 MX
I have the 22.50 drivers currently, but have tried others with no better success.

When I start up Civ3, the intro movie plays fine, then my monitor goes into standby. Basically the vid card stops sending info to the monitor, and forcing me to power off/reboot.

If I start up Civ3 in Win 98/ME compatibility mode, I can get the main menu, and play the game just fine (aside from all the usual known bugs)... BUT... on the diplomacy portrait screen, all the lines are flipped upside down. The war/peace/trade lines in the key at the right are flipped upside down relative to the words, so that the orange solid/dotted alliance lines are actually sitting on top of the tabs in the key.
Clicking on the top center portrait (myself) shows the lines for peace/war/etc with other nations radiating from the BOTTOM center portrait. All the lines are flipped over the X-axis, so that clicking on any of the top three portraits will show the connections radiating from the bottom three portraits. Only the 2 portraits to either side will work properly, since they just get flipped over on themselves.
I can figure out what points to where with a little thought, I just have to flip the portraits around in my head to have them make sense... but this should not be happening and I don't know any way to fix this. Since I can't get the game to work without being in compatibility mode (I've tried the refresh rate fixes to no avail), I'm stuck with getting compatitibility mode to work properly.

So.... anyone run into this problem and fix it? Or have any ideas I can try out?

    Thanks in advance!

Attached a screen of the problem.

Notice Greece is highlighted, but the lines are all coming out of the Japan portrait. The lines are correct assuming the Japan and Greece portraits are swapped, and the Aztec and Iroquois portaits are swapped. (Greece is at war with England, China, Egypt, and the Iroquois, and is at peace with the Aztec.
