  • HOW do you change the starting point for civs in the mapeditor?

I wrote a long message asking this yesterday, but only got the reply "search for it in the creation forum".
I did, but it's not that easy scrolling through hundreds of topics. And I didn't even find it!

So, again. In a World map at least, you want to have the Americans start in Washington, not in Europe and the Chinese to start in China not in Finland.
Is there no way to change that?????

You can't change it in the mapeditor, but you can swap the units with a savegame editor after the start. (see the files forum)

I downloaded the editor, but I have no idea how to use it!
I tried putting in units in the scenario file in the editor and through the game itself, but neither worked.
How do you really change what civ the units belongs to anyway???

A little tutorial on how to do would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do the "scenarios" in Civ3, which are really world maps, do they have set strating points? Because it seems when I play I don't start where I historically should.

They have starting positions, but not bound to a civ.

This savegame editor doesn't work here. I already posted a respective question but got not answer.

How doesn't it? I thought it allowed one to open a saved game and move various things around- why can't it be done for all the civs, and then save your scenario as a saved game when it's ready to be played?

yes. But the stange thing is that you can't open savedgames with it! Just the scenario files, and it doesn't make sense to me how you change stuff there.
And how can you add for example an Americans settler near washington in the editor where the civs haven't been decided yet????

In the files forum there are two programs that can modify SaveGames. One is my own Civ3CopyTool (v0.70 and later) and one is jimmyh's Save Game Editor

but with your Civ3CopyTool there is no way to fix/correct the starting positions of the factions (or I didn't found/understand it), and I only can open the bic files with it, not the sav files, and the SaveGameEditor doesn't work for me, windows doesn't accept it as an executable program but says it's a dos file. Seems that there is something missing in header.

And in all premade maps here I've the problem that the "show big picture" research string table doesn't allow to switch the research.

In version 0.70+ of my tool there is a menu called "Integrated Civ3 Tools" at the top. Check it out.
