Apparently Romans are very likely to get their units promoted. Well I was playing as the Romans and discoverd a lost tribe with a legionary, it had 3 barbarians that attacked me, the unit got promoted to Veteran on the first battle. Then became elite on the third battle. I used him in a war against Egypt and defeated at least half a dozen warriors, then sent him back to be fortified in my city next to a barbarian village. The village was quite for 500 years until about 20 barbarians came out from nowwhere and attacked my elite legionary. He only lost one hit point and after resting continued defending my city. After 350 years I sent him to Greece, where he fought another dozen warriors and 4 or 5 chariots, he amazingly survived the battle. The elite legionary is still elite and has not become a great leader, even though he could of already become elite another 10 times at least. Is there something wrong here???

There have been comments from Firaxians suggesting that your chances of getting a Leader from barbarian bashing are approaching zero. Having played 3 full games as the Romans I can assure you that leaders are possible but very rare. I have always managed to get one - and only one - in the ancient era in the process of eliminating at least one neighbouring civ. With the Epic built this has enabled me to get 1-2 more leaders in future wars before the end of the game. Leaders are not something you can rely on getting, even as a military civ.To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the necessity of reflection.
