Suggestions for getting around Interception Bug?

Without suggesting the obvious-Wait for the patch answer- I was wondering how do some of the vets handle this situation?

Im in my second game( Warlord-Huge map-12 civs-Germans)
and I just built my first panzers and am reserching Airplanes and want to know if fighters should be bought and if so the correct aplication of a broken unit?

What about this...

go into the editor, change the rules concerning air pieces by removing all abilities to do air superiorty...that way the computer or you can't intercept...makes it fair.

Ive done this in my mods -the question is can i change it and have it work in a already saved game?
If so how?
