I've tried it any but up-side-down now, and I still can't get the Videomode=1600 (or any other res) command to work... Am I doing something wrong or is it simply not working?

It works for me. I use 1152.
I think that your problem is a typo. You should have a space between Video and Mode.
Thus "Video Mode=xxxx" should give you the resolution you desire (xxxx by yyyy) -
Use Keepres=1
Ive heard reports that videomode=1600 hundred doesnt work, but if you have your desktop set to 1600 and use keepres=1 it will work. Give that a try and see if it helps!Comment

JaMiaM: Thanks, but the typo was only in the post, not in my .ini
I actually copied and pasted from the readme to make sure I had everything correct.
Hugo: Yeah, I've started to realize I'll have to use Keepres... but I don't want my desktop at 1600...So there's a bit of messing around to do. I figure I shouldn't have to, seeing as there is a command for forcing Civ to a good res... Oh well. Keepres, here I come!
