  • New Bug (ATTN: Firaxis)

When is pollution a good thing? When the city doesn't remember it polluted. Look at the screenshot (I had to do some odd erasing to get it to fit).

Pretty nice production for only one tile, don't you think?

Paris has a Factory (+50%) and a Hydro Plant from the Hoover Dam (+50%). I appear to have managed to pick up around 20 extra shields of production from nowhere.

As far as I can tell, this bug occurred as I was clearing pollution in my game (yes, I was tooling around at Chieftain...just trying out civs and stuff). Whenever pollution occurred, I'd always throw enough workers on it to clear it in one turn, and then enter the city screen and click on the city square to put the worker back to work - though this shouldn't really have any effect.

Apparently what's going on is a stacking effect - I polluted on those mountain tiles (4 shields, 3 commerce) several times, and cleared it immediately, then set the worker back to work. Each time the square was polluted, I suppose that the production was not altered to reflect the polluted square was not being worked, and putting the worker back to work simply stacked the production of the old square back on to the total. A few times I polluted on one of the mined grasslands, and you can see that Paris' food is getting a +5 bonus from nowhere. My game includes many other examples - a size 32 city just out of range of the cropped shot is getting a +10 food bump from nothing at all.

I discovered this when I was wondering why Paris' production kept increasing at random intervals, after the city was size 20 (and therefore had enough ability to work all the tiles). It kept scaling up...starting from 77 (which is fairly accurate - there are about 39 shields available in that production radius) to where it is in my current save, a whopping 117 (off the same 39 shields).

One more thing for The Patch?

Sevorak, I suggest that you would send a bug report directly to Firaxis, by visiting their website.
