Solution to the Windows 98 nvidia tnt2 problem

I met all the requirements, and so on.... I installed to my d: drive, using my new cd rw.

Well I installed CIV 3 and tried to get it to work, I was getting the civ 3.exe error with page faults right from the beginning, and here is what I did. After each step it failed the same way.

I reinstalled civ 3, failed again
updated my nvidia drivers to 21.xx, failed again
updated my sound card drivers, failed again
Rolled back my nvidia drivers to 12.xx, failed again
Patched up my computer, failed again
Got the Fixed.exe from game copy world, failed again.

messed with the monitor until I started getting the out of scan range, failed again
edited the civ2.ini file to have all the things in the newsgroups say, failed again
changed the opening movie so it doesn't start, failed again.
    prayed to god, failed again
threatened my motherboard with a soldering iron, failed again.

unistalled tried to return the game, failed again.

I reinstalled the game onto my c: drive using my old cd reader, and it works fine, other than the wait between turns sucks.

I don't expect the testers to get everything, but come on. I run windows 98 which has been around forever, and use all the regular hardware. I don't think my setup is that obtuse, I mean I only use my computer for gaming I dont install a lot of crazy stuff on it. The last things installed were Diablo 2.
Working...
