The Music on Civ3 sucks! It's just a bunch of annoying percussion sounds! I heard that the music on Civ3 was suppose to be much better than that. What gives?! Anyway, this must be a bug, so how do I fix it? I am playing Civ under Windows 2000.
The music changes depending on what you're doing and how far you've progressed. I, too, found it annoying at the beginning with the stupid drumbeat and turned off the music. In another game, I turned the music back on in the Industrial Age and was surprised by the new tunes.
I'm planning on substituting my own music, since they are MP3 files.
The music in Civ3 is what has pleased me most about the game so far. Especially the medieval and industrial era sounds. They are great for the games atmosphere.
Well, I have the Spinner player that comes with RealPlayer 8. I just run movie tunes with Spinner in the background while I play the game. It works out great! You know, it actually makes the game seem more interesting when playing music in the background. Don't ask me why, but for some reason, when there's no music playing in the background the game bores me to death! Oh well, maybe that's just because I'm new to the game and haven't completely figured it out.
There's no real answer to a questionary like this one. Everyone has a personal taste of music, no matter how you try to compare. Someone wants Bach's organ music, someone else enjoys Spice Girls' latest hits and the third one wants listen to gospel. You just can't say that Civ III's music sucks, because that's only your personal opinion. Of course you can do so, but you can't have the correct opinion. Music is one of those things that it's not easy to give background details on your love-hate relationship to a certain music genre. Compare it to colours and other things that has to do with emotional matters.
My personal opinion is that the music in Civ III is nice and cool. ´
Bu that's still just my own opinion.

So is there any way to incorporate multiple songs into the ancient age? Or can I only overwrite the one that's already there? Is there some time requirement to be aware of? What songs have people substituted into the game?

Don't play the music! It only slows down the game anyway, and doesn't add a thing to the game IMO.
