Anyway to change your characters name....

.... or are we stuck with what the History wizards at Firaxis cooked up. i.e the people they think were the MOST important leaders of your civ.
For example why would I like to play as joan of Arc when i have napolean to trample others with ??

Two ways...

In the start of your new game, click on the portrait of the leader of the civ you choose to play, and you'll be able to change the name. That only affects this one game.

For a more permanent solution, in the "civilizations" tab of the editor you can change both the name and gender.

Neither solution affects the graphics. For that, to the best of my knowledge, you'd need substitute .flc animation files.
