  • Invalid page fault in module CIVILIZATION3.EXE

Has anyone else experienced a problem similar to this?

During the "Please wait..." between 2041 and 2042 I get a Windows error message that says Civ3 has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. It then kicks me back to the desktop.

In 2042 I'm set to build a tactical nuke and a radar artillery (renamed MLRS) for the first time -- don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Here's the "details" on the error:

CIVILIZATION3 caused an invalid page fault in
    module CIVILIZATION3.EXE at 0167:00403046.

I had a similar problem. It had to do with settling. First it was with a computer player doing it and it sounds exactly as you describe. But then it happened to me, I couldn't settle in a specific spot. Don't know if it's the same. Here is the Thread

    Good luck!

If I understand you correctly, you renamed a unit using the editor? Did you follow the instructions in the help file, and rename the unit's folder in Art/Units and its INI file inside that folder?

If not, the game will definitely crash, as the game uses unit's name to determine which art to load.

Now that's what I call service...

I didn't change the folder or INI -- I simply saw the "Rename" button and hit it. I just went in and changed the name back and the problem went away.

        Thanks Dan!

No problem. I recommend reading the Editor's help file, not only because it explains a lot of these little tricky kinda things, but also because I spent a lot of time writing it!

I'm getting a similar problem, with the crash occurring while the game processes the 1700 AD turn. I have not renamed any units. I have not used any of the 3rd party tools yet, either, just the stock game editor.

The help file is a little hard to read in its entirety, due to its format. Are there any more of these watch-outs buries in there?

These are the things I have done (that I can remember):

              Created a government.
              Renamed a civilization (Americans).
Swapped the colors (both unique & default) between the civ I renamed and the Germans.
Made changes to the bonuses & unit availability of the renamed civ.
Set the renamed civ to prefer the new government and all other civs to shun the new government (that last doesn't work - they are all using it anyway).
Changed the Huge world size to 256 x 256 (the game which is crashing is played on a Huge random map).
Changed the Appearance Ratio to 200 and Disappearance Probability to 0 for all strategic resouces (left the luxury & bonus resources at default).

Maybe it has to do with the 256x256 size map. Because I am having the same problem and that is what I had changed. Also switched some national colors. But that is it.

There may be an issue with certain colors that cause the game to crash, but I'm not positive on that.

If I can confirm or deny this I'll let you know.
