How do you extract an .ace file?

I have the problem described in the thread http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...threadid=31088 -- that is, game won't start but the editor works. Splash screen comes up (tower of babel scene) but the intro movie does not start. Mouse hangs for a little while, then the intro screen dissappears. In safe mode, I get a message box "cannot locate CD". I thought this was because the program did not have the cd path correct, which is a problem I have had with other games (my configuration is nonstandard), but a registry key CD_Path is set correctly by the install (in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Infogames).

So, I have downloaded Civilization3_exe.ace from gamecopyworld to try that, but how do I extract an .ace file? Thanx, all.
