To make life easier on the Firaxis Programmers, perhaps we should consolidate, or
create a central thread with our suggestions for future patches/enhancements to
Civilization III. I've also divided this into two sections, the first dealing
with stuff that the Firaxis programmers are the best for, and the second
with stuff us fans can do...
------------------STUFF FIRAXIS CAN DO------------------------------------
Firaxis Idea 1). Rework the Firaxis-supplied editor to allow you to ADD new
types of units, etc instead of simply RENAMING them, because that
was a bad design decision of Civ 2, limiting it to just X number
of units, and this will make it easier for you to focus on quashing
genuine bugs instead of catering to the demands of technopiles like
me as shown in the next part.
Firaxis Idea 2). If it's not already in the game, add a new unit tag for nuclear
powered units, indicating that they have a 50/50 chance of irraddating
the square when destroyed. Also this tag, allows a new diplomacy option
to be created......for example: New Zealand in real life, does not like
US Navy Nuclear-powered ships/boats to be in her territorial waters....
make a "non-right of passage for Nuclear-powered craft" diplomacy option...
Firaxis Idea 3). Start fixing some of the niggling bugs in the game,
concerning Combat (how a spearman defeats the USS Iowa),
and Corruption.
Firaxis Idea 4). A lot of people are complaining about the entire
CULTURE mess, et cetera. Why not make this into an [b ADVANTAGE[/b]
for DESPOTISM, MONARCHY, and COMMUNISM?
Make a special unit only available to those governments,
something on the lines of a Secret Police unit along
the lines of the GESTAPO, or NKVD/KGB...they brutally
supress all resistance movements in the city...and allow
you to do MASS DEPORTATION as a single button
click that automatically EXPELS the enemy citizens
from the city and takes in citizens from the CLOSEST
of your cities....Of course, this would be very politically
damaging, but WTH, you're a dictatorship! Why should
world public opinion matter?
--------------------STUFF THE FANS CAN DO-------------------------------
Fan Idea 1). Rework some of the strategic minerals, because some of them do not
make sense, such as an AEGIS cruiser requiring URANIUM. In real life, the
Ticonderoga class AEGIS cruisers are fossil-fuel powered, being driven
through the water by GE Gas Turbines. A much better idea would be to
introduce a few new modern-age strategic minerals such as: TITANITIUM,
being required for the advanced aircraft, such as the Stealth, B-2, and
F-15, as well as for Starship components, and some sort of strategic
mineral neccisating to the creation of COMPUTERS needed to control
the AEGIS type ships, perhaps GERMANIUM, because SILICON is just
too easily obtainable........
Fan Idea 2). Redo the unit tree for the late 19th and most of the 20th century,
adding all kinds of units, because unlike previous millenias, where pikemen
and spearmen remained the status quo unchanged for thousands of years with
minor costume changes, military technology changed dramatically in just
a mere 150 years (1850 to 2000). Add such things as WWI biplanes, and
WWI tanks, plus an effective machinegunner unit, to represent the stalemate
that the western front imposed on offensive war, until broken by the tank.
Fan Idea 3). Create a completely new 20th century navy tree, with more variants
of Aircraft carriers.....like the following:
WWII Aircraft carrier: 2 air units, moves moderately, poor radar.
Forrestal class Supercarrier (fossil fuel powered): Holds 4 air units, moves
moderately, good radar, is cheap to build compared to the next unit, but is
expensive to operate.
Nimitz Class Supercarrier (Nuclear powered): Holds 5 air units, moves FAST,
excellent radar, EXPENSIVE to build, but cheap to operate beyond your unit
limit, because of no refuellings for 20 years.
Virginia Class Cruiser (Nuke powered): 1/2 the attack value of an AEGIS cruiser,
but still has the x2 vs Air tag, because the Virginias used an earlier AAA system
that AEGIS grew out of. Same basic concepts of Nuke ships apply - fast, expensive
to make, cheap to operate apply.
Fan Idea 4). Create TANK DESTROYERS in the WWII period, with the same attack
as Tanks, the speed, but 1/2 the defensive points....and much cheaper to make...
Whaddya think?
