  • CIV: Spain!

    by Francisco Ruiz
    fruizg@yahoo.com

These files add the Spanish Civilization to Civ 3. It seems incredible that the Aztecs made the cut but the civilization that drove them out of existence did not. In this incarnation, The Spanish are militaristic expansionists (like the Zulus) who have access to the awesome "Tercios" as soon as Invention is discovered early in the Renaissance period (replacing the longbowmen).

One problem : This patch also changes corruption levels so people who want to keep them cant use it.

Don't be a dickhead... now we have spain in civ3 that is much more that sid meyer gave us so why starting with bull**** about castilla is not the same as cataluña, etc...

and if you are from eltaranna, I would tell you something your mpeg mode pack for civ2 is not historical correct, Jaime I was not king of Spain but of Aragon and his name was Jaime not Jaume and the capital was Zaragoza not barcelona :P

I have applied the patch, and it is cool to have Spain available.
Good job! Also cool to have 17 civs to choose from at the start, even though only 16 are playable. There are only 2 problems I have noticed with this patch. Firstly, when the 8 civs appear in the foreign advisor screen, Spain is blank. Not a big deal, since you can still see the relationship lines with the other civs. Secondly, during diplomatic negotitations, there are cases where Isabella responds "AIwhatever" or it is blank. Where do I go to add the proper text so it shows up in that screen?
Also, if somebody creates a new leader-head (default for Reina Isabella in this patch is Joan of Arcalusia), will they please post it here? I'd like to change the leaderhead too.

It seems incredible that the Aztecs made the cut but the civilization that drove them out of existence did not.
I strongly second that remark, it was a truly moronic decision on the part of Firaxis not to include the Spanish in Civ 3. I It is just inexcusable to have civilizations like the Aztecs, Iroquois, japanese, greeks, and yes, i'll say it even the Americans, but not the Spanish. Before the patriotic USA guys go berserk, let me just say why the Americans because, first off, while i never heard anyone say this, Americans are truly a fishy "civilization" i mean, it was only 100-150 years ago when the United States could even be considered a world power and Americans are really just a mish mosh of other peoples and cultures, even the "native " americans probably came from asia.

Spain, on the other hand, has been of great importance since the time of Hannibal and the ancient Romans, it continued to be of great importance during the golden period of the Moors, of course was the civilization that "discovered" the new world with Columbus in 1492, is responible for colonizing and terrorizing much of the new world, thats why almost every country south of the Rio Grande speaks Spanish, for all you Anglo-Saxon lovers out there, Spain was the FIRST civilization who hand a empire where the sun never set, as they had colonies in the Americas, Africa, and the Phillipines, as well as parts of Italy, Belgium, Holland, and Portugal. How can you argue that a mish mosh "civilization" comprised almost entirely of other cultures already respresented in the game and that has maybe 150 years of importance can make the cut, but a civilization that has been of importance for THOUSANDS of years, and is responsible for exploring and colonizing much of the Americas and the world for that matter, did not. And as for the Greeks, its a civilization that won several heroic wars against Persia, is responsible for many great modern ideas such as Democracy, but its still a civilization that ever since they were conquered by the romans sometime BEFORE Jesus Christ was even born, they really have been unimportant since Medieval times and they would continue to be for the next 2000 years to this very day. And by the way, , but how many other countries out there for example, speak Greek or Japanese? I point this out not to insult anybody's culture, but just to realize and appreciate the dozens upon dozens of countries that speak Spanish as their first or second language.

And to top off the insult, Firaxis puts the AZTECS! And who do they put as the great leader of the Aztecs, MONTEZUMA!!!! MONTEZUMA! The man who Cortez made a fool out of and is responisble for the destruction of his own empire! The only reason Firaxis and anyone else even knows Montezuma, is because he was the leader when the Spanish took over! If anybody ever uses the Aztecs, certainly Montezuma is nothing to be proud of! He was a disaster for the Aztecs, its like putting Emperor Nero or Caligula as leader of the Romans or Herbert Hoover or Richard Nixon as leader of the Americans! Sounds funny doesn't it?
