  • Elimination of Mines/Irrigation - Possible?

Since workers cause a serious drag on turn-time, I've been toying with several ideas to improve them.

Some have been pleas to Firaxis, found in my Improve Workers thread.

Here's another idea I've had...Eliminate the need for mining and irrigation.

This could be done by adjusting the terrain bonuses to meet the levels gained by adding an improvement and then nullifying the bonuses that the given improvement would give.

Here is a list of altered terrain types...
    Food/Shields
    +3/+2 - Grassland Plus
    +3/+1 - Grassland
    +2/+2 - Plains
    +1/+2 - Desert
    +0/+2 - Tundra
    +4/+0 - Flood Plain
    +1/+3 - Hill
    +0/+3 - Mountain
    +1/+2 - Forest
    +1/+0 - Jungle

Workers would still be needed to build roads/railroads, clear/plant forests, clear jungles, and clean up pollution, but they wouldn't need to build any other structures.

There are some problems I can't seem to overcome, though...

    1. How would I compensate for railroads, if they add +1 shields or +1 food depending on the improvement built underneath?

    2. If I removed the irrigation & mining commands, how would the AI react?

    Opinions?
