Using the hacked editor/copying tool to add units

How exactly do you add units without causing the game to crash?Does the game crash because they have the same pictures, and if so, how do you change the pictures to oes not included in the game?

That is it, if you RENAME a unit you have to copy its directory to the new name and rename the inifile to the new name as well.

For that matter, do you do the same thing to add techs?
