  • Civ colors, how many can you chose from?

From my mixing with the BIC-files I'm sure that the colors are saved as an index, and not a RGB value. I therefore ask the one with the editor to tell me how many colors you can chose from.

Just had a look on Sn00py´s mountains - my viewer said indexed 8bit/256 color pcx. That COULD mean you have to use 256 colors but can choose these colors freely (in Civ2 we were forced to use the exact Microprose palette) since the game runs in 16 or 24bit. However, not sure about the palette thing...perhaps a Firaxian could help us here...

On the other hand other GFX (I just looked at the edited oracle pic from the Civ3 general Forum) are in 24 bit Perhaps they limited the landscape tiles to 8bit to save ressources (RAM), perhaps the game accepts also these tiles in higher color depth...I would try it, but I haven´t the game yet...

I meant how many colors you could choose for the civs, but I've already got the answer: 32.
