  • BUG REPORT - Editor - Changing rules in ANY way TOTALLY locks Science Advisor

    Hiya,

Well, I was messing around with the editor. And yes, whereas it leaves a bit to be desired in terms of scripting and, overall scenario building, I decided to have a wee bit of fun.

Thus, I went to change a few small rules, in specfic (at least at first) was my attempt to change the names of the Civilization leaders (to former co-workers names.... Hey, I figure they'd get a kick out of it. )

I created a huge map, change the city names, default colors of a couple Civs and a few other things and then loaded my new .bic scenario.

All seemed well, no problems loading, etc.

    Then, I built a city.

Naturally, the science advisor pops up and tells me to research X technology. Well, I don't want that tech, thank you.

So, I go to the advisors icon on the main screen, drop down to science advisor to change it and to actually put a little in depth thought into it and, what happens?

Well, nothing.... that is I cannot click (either right click or left click) at ALL on ANY of the advances, already discovered, able to be discovered, or in the future. This includes the left click 'Civilopedia' pop-ups.

In fact, I can't even click on the technology it chose for me.

Now, if I pick a civilzation advance from the 'science advisior' pop-up on the main screen, I'm able to select whichever tech I'd like, but again, I cannot change it in any capacity. In effect, the entire science advisor screen totally freezes except for the 'more' button beneath the advisors head. I get no sound effects from right or left clicking on any of the advances.

When I do not alter the rules in any way, but generate a random map, this bug does not appear.

However, when I touch the rules in ANY capacity (even to just edit the text name of any one city, for example) this happens.

Thus, I'd like to know if anyone can reproduce this, and if not perhaps I have a bad install, but I've had no other problems at all.

I have an entire network of machines at my disposal, so I'll try reinstalling if others don't experience this problem/cannot reproduce it.

However, if someone would like to try it and see if they get the same results, we can then perhaps call it an official bug.

Again, it doesn't seem to matter what rules change is made (I tried several permutations, single changes, text changes, etc.) and eliminated all the variables. The moment I change anything, this result happens.

Now, naturally, it's not deadly, but still, when one can't look at the tree in the Science Advisor, it's MORE than highly annoying. Not to mention, there are times that one wants to change midstream for some reason.

    Thanks Much,

    Scott S.

Yup. I have the same problem, even using just the original civ3mod.bic file.

A fix for this is already in the forthcoming patch.

Err... I tried changing the rulez using the original civ3mod.bic file, and I've never encountered any problem. The technology tree is intact and working well...

Don't know why urs won't work??
