Wouv! Now I am really getting impressed!
How do you do it? Are you hacking some files to do this? Or is the terrain accessible otherwise?

If the terrain is inaccessible to people without hexing skills, maybe there's a terrain editor coming up?

Is that ice on the top of the pic? Looks good, keep up the good work...

Oh and since you obviously have the game could you tell me, are all those *pcx files in 24bit/truecolor or 8bit pallette pics. I think the game is in 24bit graphics...

I believe.. 24bit but they are in indexed pcx format

so be careful if you edit the files

I'm very impressed by your work, SnOOps. But, sorry, since I'm not as technically sophisticated as you, I need help: how will I be able to apply your changes to my game?

Congratulations, and keep up the good work! I´m really looking forward to a different kind of irrigation ...

The terrain tiles is just a set of images, so if you want to replace them with terrain that someone else has altered or created, it's really not too difficult.

The biggest difficulty is with *creating* new terrain, because the tiles are generated using a 3D program and then "cut out" in a very specific and mathematically confusing way that most of US don't even understand.

As always, I would recommend making a backup before you overwrite the installed terrain tiles, if for no other reason than because restoring all those files from the game CD could be a major source of heartburn.

Thanks, Dan, for your input. But I have another question for you: how do you - you who has worked so hard on this game for so long - react to all these hotshots and upstarts redesigning your stuff within hours of its release, in some cases without even owning a copy of the game yet! Are you insulted at any level by peoples' attitude, as if nothing you make is considered good enough?
I, for one, want to thank you for an awesome job.

I don't (and I doubt anyone else on the team does, either) take any of it personally. This is a game that is designed to appeal to a broad base of consumers, from casual gamers to RTS players who never really played TBS games, to diehard Civ players. Each group will have its own concerns, likes, dislikes, and so on. And it really is impossible to please everyone all the time, so if folks want to hack around and change things, I say go for it.

The purpose of our products are to entertain people, and nothing more. If folks get enjoyment by modding, hacking, or otherwise changing the game, more power to them.

And Firaxis could give us more power with all those nice features for the editor(s) like an events language, flat map support etc...

Since I hear everywhere the game itself is great () I think the coming features like MP and better scenario options should be on the same level.

I can't see the image. If it's a *.pcx, could you please repost it in the standard *.png format?

                          Leo, it's a JPEG.

Quit using that sorry excuse for a browser called Opera, use a real browser.

                            Tasty, tasty gfx...

                            Booyah!

That is looking great Sn00py!!! Gives a very 3D look there on the polar region! Very, very good job!

Easy Suggestion #1: You'll note that the 'River Delta' (forget the name of it) has a colour that doesn't match the rivers, rather, it matches the costal ocean colour. A very easy fix to that aspect of terrain that will be a welcomed addition indeed.

Keep up the good work yo!
