  • Jeff Morris on editing terrain and units::

I was just talking with Jeff about editing the terrain and units and this is what he has to say:

You can edit the units, but you can't add more (like in civ2).

You can edit the terrain, but you have to use 3D Studio MAX.

The faces (advisors, leaders, citizens) are all done in Lightwave.

Sorry, I beg to differ, that statement is not correct.

In Civ 2 (Original) you could add 3 extra Units.

In Civ 2 (Fantastic Worlds) you could add in 11 extra Units.

In Civ 2 (Test of Time) you could add in 29 extra units.

(In addition to the Original game units).

In this respect Civ 3 (at the moment) is a step backwards.

hehe, sorry, I've said that wrong

when I said 'like in civ2' I meant that you could in civ2 but can't in civ3

I can only hope that Firaxis improves that. Adding of additional units (but also techs, wonders etc ) would be great, and as Kestrel pointed out, Civ3 should not fall behind Civ2 in that.

To the 3D software, most 3D packages can save various formats, however making anims of that quality is hard work.

It seems, that we can indeed add units, and quite a few too

And in CtP you could have unlimited units (with 200 different sprites) ****-dammit. This is ****. Sorry, but what use is it to have an amazing new wonderful editor, when you're stuck in limits? Scenario building shouldn't be who can come up with the most creative use of the rules (7th civ allied to everyone with super-unattackable air units for stars in Civ2 Star Wars springs to mind), it should be about getting what you want into the game. Grrrr. Very very angry.
              Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?
