Civ 3 Conquests: A faster regular game?

Hi. I find civ 3 a little slow and ponderous, especially in the early game, compared to civ 2 which develops rapidly and easily. i'm sure civ 3 is designed differently. does civ 3 conquests tweak the game so its faster? for example, in civ 3 vanilla it takes me an hour or more to obtain markets and harbours. in civ 2 i'm up the tech tree in no time. what is the epic game like in conquests? sir s.

The pacing is much the same in Conquests; it really just adds more stuff (a few techs, a few buildings, plus more units and wonders).
