  • Colony creation and also applying the patch

I cannot seem to create a colony. My workers never have the option, and when I hit b, nothing happens. When I hit CTRL+b, I get a little box with a brown house in the middle of it, which I assume is the colony box. However, I can never lay it down. How do I do this? I am trying to build a colony over horses or incense, but can't. I think they resources may be in another civ's borders - does that matter?
As for the patch, I'm trying to install 1.29. It installs, but everytime I try to start the game, it says to insert the CD. I do, but it won't find it. I uninstall the patch and re-install civ3, and it works fine. Is there something special I need to do to install the patch?

I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think you can build a colony inside another civ's borders. If your worker is standing on a tile in neutral territory with a strategic resource or lux, and you hit the build colony command, the worker disappears and the colony appears. You don't need colonies inside your own borders and can't build them in someone else's (I don't think). I don't know what the little box with the house is all about.

As to the patch and the CD not found error, well, tech support really isn't my strong suit, but I'll tell you what I know.

First, with regard to the patch, the first question is what you've got. If (by any chance) you got Complete for Xmas, you've got all the patches and don't need to patch any further. If you've got anything else, I'll have to leave the question for people who know more about computers than I.

As to the CD not found error, that's a bug caused by the copy protection system. It's never really been fixed. My system did the same thing as long as I used the desktop icon to try to play. However, when I use the autorun on the CD-drive and just hit "Play" on the screen that pops up, I don't get the error.

You cannot build a colony inside anyone's border, even your own. The patch has a blacklist that loads and checks for apps that it thinks are going to subvert the protection scheme.

If it sees one, it will not load the game. These are apps like Alcohol or Dameon. Anything that creates a virtual drive. To me this seems to be an illegal act on the publishers part as it is too invasive.
